It's That Most Wonderful Time of the Year...

The men from the gas company have arrived and they are refilling the tank. Everyone is relieved. A cold, icy house gets old real fast. Even if it is warm and cozy by the fire. Cold terra cotta floors make for cold cold feet. Especially for Brooklynites used to walking barefoot indoors (due to overheated NYC apartment buildings). Once the heat is back on, moods of Brooklyn children should probably improve.

One hopes.

Teen Spirit has a sore throat, which may develop into a full blown cold. OSFO is outdoing herself in attempts to annoy her big brother. She wants to be wherever he is whether it's undercovers or squeezed into a comfortable club chair. He get's cranky, she gets more annoying, he screams. She storms off and WAILS.

OSFO recovers quickly and the entire process is repeated ad infinitum.

There's talk of going to the multiplex to see "Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events." Smartmom is thinking of going to see "Spanglish" in one of the other theaters. A grown-up movie by herself may be just the thing she needs to cure a case of family-itis

"I hate everyone in this whole entire family. Everyone is stupid and busy," OSFO whines into Smartmom's ear. "I've been waiting for hours to start on my project. How would you feel if you had to wait so long to do something you really, really wanted to do?"

OSFO is desparate to begin a rather ambitious sewing project (handmade sachets with lavender and roses from the garden). She's waiting for grandma, who is in the shower, to find the fabric scraps. Patience is not one of OSFO's strong points. And Smartmom's patience is running thin too.

Smartmom and Co. have hit that dreaded moment in every vacation when family togetherness is just another word for...MADNESS.

This too shall pass. A couple of hours in a dark theater will do Smartmom a world of good.

Ahhhh. It's that most wonderful time of the year.

sounds like things are getting a little tense at the farm. I'm sure the cold is not helping. It must be very uncomfortable there - Did you get to see "Spanglish". Hope you got some time to yourself. Sounds like you really need it. love, MIW Next year the Carribean?
